If you're still living with acne scars that you've had since you were a teen, or you're suffering from adult acne and have developed some scars, it's time to get some help. You may think that having what amounts to massive craters in your skin can't be helped, but you'd be wrong.
There are many methods that are proven to heal acne scars and return a person's face to normal. While it's difficult to permanently remove scars of any sort, the treatments available for acne scars can reduce them to almost nothing. These treatments generally aren't cheap or painless, but they do work.
The most powerful acne scar removal methods involve some degree of surgery or similar technique. As with any such procedure, there are potential risks, although in this case they are minimal. They may be classified as a cosmetic procedure, so you're insurance company may not cover the expenses.
Method 1: Laser Resurfacing. This method employs a laser to essentially burn away the top layers of skin. This is usually used in combination with a certain type of topical treatment that helps the skin that is burned away grow back healthy. With this sort of method, it's especially important to take good care of your skin after the procedure.
Method 2: Fillers. This type of treatment involves injecting some sort of filler substance, such as collagen, into the acne scars. This basically "fills in" the craters in the skin, making it look and feel smoother.
Method 3: Excision. Excision involves cutting away the scarred tissue and then suturing the healthy skin around the area together, or grafting skin from elsewhere on the body. The healthy then skin then heals over the old scarred flesh. Since this involves more cutting, it can lead to other scars, but they usually fade and are nothing compared to acne scars.
