About Acne - What You Need to Know

Do you think you know all that there is to know about acne? You may have heard or read some things about the disease that may not be necessarily true. One myth in regard to acne is that chocolate and greasy foods can lead to the condition. Studies have shown that there is no specific food that has been proven to cause the disease. People are different and therefore some may notice breakouts after eating certain specific foods. While you may notice breakouts after eating chocolate, another person may not. While others may be fine after eating chocolate, they may develop the problem after eating butter.

Another myth is that the more times you wash your face, the fewer the breakouts you will have. The fact here is that although washing your face regularly removes excess oil, overdoing it can lead to dryness and irritation. This may lead to further breakouts. Scrubbing your face can also lead to irritation. This myth about acne is not necessarily true. The rule here is that you wash your face twice a day using mild soap and water. This has to be done in a circular motion and gently dried after.

Another myth is that popping pimples helps to clear them faster. Popping a pimple may temporarily make it less noticeable but it can cause it to stay around longer. By squeezing a pimple, you can easily push the bacteria and oil deeper into the skin and this can result into more swelling and redness. Marks or scars can last for long if not forever

Another myth is that if you want clear skin, you should not wear makeup. This myth about acne is not necessarily true because certain concealers nowadays contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid which are normally used to fight acne.
