Which Acne Medications Work Best?

Is there only one medication or cure for acne? Obviously not, reason being there are many different types of acne. Therefore a visit to a doctors office will help you choose the right medication or medications for you, to clear up your acne.

There is no one step easy cure for acne. There are many different skin types, and types of acne so it makes it very difficult to treat acne on a one size fits all basis.

Some people out there are looking for that quick-fix solution to there acne, especially when they have a stubborn strain of acne that they haven't been able to make completely go away. There are a lot of experimentation and trials with different medications out there now and many different products that will help clear up any strain.

When dealing with acne its always best to see a doctor that specializes in dermatology. These doctors usually have had plenty of professional experience with the many types of acne. They can also tell you the don't do's of acne.

The number one no no is to not try and self-treat or self-medicate yourself you may end up irritating your skin. Don't scrub your skin where it is affected by acne, as this only irritates and inflames your acne making the healing process take longer to heal.

The doctors also say do not try and remove pimples on your own. One of the first things a doctor will prescribe is a topical cream to help heal your acne, but is not to cure your acne. Creams are one of the treatments to help manage the symptoms of acne.

There are treatments for all symptoms. If you have clogged pores(bacteria) the doctor may prescribe Antibiotics. If you have an overabundance of oils or need hormone to stimulate your glands then oral contraceptives may be in order.

The topical creams do not always improve acne by itself, you many also need and oral antibiotic. Topical creams, such as benzoyl peroxide, were originally thought to be harmless are now shown to lead to premature aging of the skin due to prolonged use, even though effective.

Even in the best cases, acne does not clear up overnight. In fact, even when you have found a treatment that works, your skin will usually get worse before it gets better. The most important thing to remember when trying to eliminate your acne is to work with a trained medical professional that you trust.

Even when your doctor recommends a treatment doesn't mean that your acne will clear up immediately. You may need to try several different treatments before finding success. Usually treatments demand continual use for at least four to six weeks before expecting results.
