Preventing Scars - Effective Scar Treatment

Preventing scars from injury, surgery or acne is promising given the proper skin care regimen and scar treatment. Scars from cosmetic or plastic surgery, surgical procedures or from old acne breakouts can be effectively treated smoothing and polishing your complexion while promoting healthy skin cell renewal.

Scars are formed as dermal layers regrow and connect following injury or surgery. Most scarring occurs when skin is stretched and pulled during the healing process. Lack of moisture and hydration coupled with lack of elasticity, stretches and deforms epidermis and dermis layers giving a lined and smooth appearance.

It is not uncommon for scars to be accompanied by discoloration. Red, pink and purple coloring magnifies the appearance of the scar and, unfortunately, may bring undue attention to an already very visible scar.

Preventing scars and identifying a scar treatment that works is not that difficult. There are several scar removal products on the market. Creams and lotions address scar removal by helping to exfoliate or "peel" exposing new layers of skin that can formal with normal cellular structure.

Though the idea of "peeling" your skin may not sound appealing, chemical and abrasion peels are fairly common and rarely painful. In-home peels and exfoliation are less strong than those used by med spas and dermatologist, though they often take more time to reach effectiveness.

Many skin care products formulated for scar treatment also promote new cell renewal or turnover and improve cell membrane strength. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is often used to help cells retain moisture and hydration. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. HA encourages moisture retention necessary for healthy cell development.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is also common in removing scars. Alpha Lipoic Acid and peptides and polypeptides like Matrixyl, help rejuvenate cell reproduction and deliver amino acids and proteins for improved skin health.

Look for other ingredients such as Vitamin E and Vitamin K as well. Vitamin E is well known for its soothing and natural healing effects on the skin. Vitamin K helps rebuild capillary and vein walls and helps reduce redness and fades discoloration.

Though skin care is available for smoothing and clearing the complexion, preventing scars requires discipline. Scars require time to fade and heal. Though scars may naturally heal in 3-4 months, you may still notice discoloration for years. Using a scar removal product may allow you to accelerate and prevent scars from cuts and surgery and may promote healing scars naturally.

It is not uncommon for scars to heal and discoloration to fade in 12-16 weeks with a bit of effort and the right products. Maintain a disciplined regimen, stay out of the sun and allow scabs to protect and give new skin a chance to develop, e.g. don't pick!

Preventing scars from surgery and most injury is possible with scar removal products. Even if scars are not completely removed, scar treatment will help soften scars and improve their appearance (making them less visible) if you are willing to invest the time and "keep at it!"
