Using Lemon Juice As an Acne Treatment - Overnight Acne Treatment

Lemon juice is one of many home rememdy ingredients that can be used to treat acne, and it has proved to be quite effective over time. Chinese, homeopaths and ancient people used it for treating various types of ailments especially for skin ailments and disorder.

The main reason why lemon juice, preferable concentrated, is such an effective treatment for acne is that it contains extracts of Vitamin C, traces of citric acid and other minerals. All of these ingredients aid the health of your skin and help to treat skin disorders such as acne or acne scars.

How does lemon juice treat acne?

Because lemon juice contains a high level of citric acid, which although an acid, is of low pH and can actually benefit your skin. One of the causes of acne is dead skin cells, oils, dirt and bacteria on the skin surface that can block your skin pores and hence cause acne, these must be removed. Most of the time you can wash or wipe them off, but if you are not able to do it as frequently as possible then pores may become clogged.

This is where citric acid comes in.

Citric acid helps to unclog pores which have been clogged with dead skin cells, dirt, oils or bacteria and also remove any excess of these materials that may be on the skins surface, a potential hazard.

Using it to treat acne

You can use lemon juice in two ways to treat acne, either topically - applying to the skin or orally - digesting through your mouth.

Topically

Buy a fresh lemon from your local supermarket, size doesn't really matter. Cut the lemon in half and, over a bowl or dish, squeeze the lemon juice from the half of lemon, once you have gathered enough lemon juice to treat your acne put the remainder of the lemon in the fridge for future use.

Dab a cotton wool ball with lemon juice and apply liberally to the acne affected areas. You may feel a slight sting as you apply, that is perfectly normal.

Apply lemon juice every night before you go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning, wipe it off with a cleanser or wash off with warm water.

You may wish to dilute it with water if you feel it is too strong.

Oral

Once again, cut the lemon into 2 halves and squeeze into a glass, now you have two choices, either drink it completely concentrated - it will be quite strong, or you can dilute it with water. What i find is quite useful is to make a "Lemon Tea", which is basically just hot water and added in lemon juice.

You should do this every morning, preferable on an empty stomach, this will flush out all toxins from your body and prevent them from being released from your skin pores.

Lemon juice has been an effective anti-acne remedy for years and still is as effective as it as before. Its use is safe and you can use it orally and topically. If you are experiencing any discomfort from this treatment, stop immediately.
