Reducing Or Eliminating Acne Scars

Acne scars can be devastating and until recently there was no good way to eliminate those scars. In recent years, laser treatments have become popular. Acne laser treatments are one of the few treatments that have had positive results.

Acne scars are no joking matter! If you have acne scars, you know what we're talking about. In fact, they can be devastating, affecting ones self-confidence, and interfering with ones social life. Some people are so bothered by their scars that they interfere with both there personal and professional life. They can even affect career choices.

When you are self-conscious about your scars, you tend to try to hide your face from others.  That's where cosmetic surgery using laser can be so helpful. Laser is used to improve the appearance of scars, leading to the restoration of self-esteem in their appearance.

As much as 80% of the population suffers from acne at some point during their life.  There is no magic bullet, and no real cure. And until the laser, there are just combinations of medicines and topical creams that often had minimal effect.

With technological advances came the development of the laser, which has already proven to improve mild to moderate acne is just a couple of treatments. Best of all there are no side effects, just positive results!

When a person seeks out laser treatment for their acne, three stages occur. First, the laser is used to kill the bacteria that cause active acne, followed by the shrinking of the sebaceous glands. The third stage begins to remove acne scars. A laser treatment takes around 15 minutes and there is no recuperation period and no pain.

Laser technology is used to remove both acne and acne scars.  When used to remove acne scars, the treatment is similar to the way laser is used on wrinkles and fine lines.  Laser treatment promotes new collagen growth, which fills in the scars from the inside out.  The same technology that is used to remove pigmented lesions is used to remove the redness from acne scars.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease of the sebaceous hair follicles.  Each of these follicles contains a tiny hair.  The oil our skin produces would normally travel up the hair follicle.  If for any reason this does not occur, bacteria starts growing in the clogged pore, and before you know it you have the dreaded zit!  Both laser treatments and light treatments target these bacteria to kill it.

Studies have been conducted using 400nm to 403nm low intensity light treatment found dramatic results.  When a person is treated for 4 weeks, using two 15-minute sessions per week, a 60% reduction in acne with remissions lasting up to 8 months was seen.

Laser has also seen significant results.  When laser was used once per month for a four-month period, there was a 100% clearing of acne in 15% of the participants that lasted more than 6 months.  Laser has been used for many years to remove acne scars.

If you have acne and are tired of trying over the counter and prescription medications, try light therapy or laser therapy.  What have you got to loose?  You will most likely be very pleased with the results.

If you have acne scars that you just can't bear to live with anymore, seek out a dermatologist and find out if laser treatment is an option.  For most sufferers of acne scars it is the only option worth spending your money on!
