Home Remedies For Acne - 5 Basic Tips to Clearer Skin

Basic Tip #1: Use a Glycerin or Sorbitol Based Soap or Face Wash.

Most soaps and washes remove all the oil on the skin, over-drying and irritating it. Glycerin or sorbitol based soaps, however, cleanse well without leaving the dryness or waxy feel to your skin. They also balance the pH of the skin, creating a hostile environment for bacteria.

Basic Tip #2: Regular Exfoliation

Besides washing regularly, and using a toner and good moisturizer, you should also exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation removes the buildup of dry skin on the skin surface that blocks pores, causes breakouts, and contributes to wrinkling.

Here's what to use:

1. Alpha and beta hydroxy acids. These are the mildest form of fruit acids used to create a peeling of the skin.

2. Dermabrasion. This process is much like a sanding of the skin - and removes the outer layers of the dermis.

3. Peels. A proper peel will remove several layers of outer skin revealing the healthy new skin underneath.

The best is the Glycolic Acid Peel - a concentrated version of the alpha hydroxyl fruit acid in a peel form. Unlike harsher peels it's made from natural acne remedies and does not damage or burn. You'll see noticeable improvement in just 2 to 3 treatments without the risk of scarring and infection. It's also wonderful for removing old acne scarring and reducing wrinkles.

Basic Tip #3: Cut the Sugars

A great home remedy for acne is to eat right! Junk food, especially sugar, feeds acne. Lowering sugar intake is a biggie. Acne can flare up within minutes of downing a high-sugar fix such as cola for example. Avoid processed foods and feed yourself properly - your skin will benefit.

Basic Tip #4: Get Plenty of Vitamin C and Water

The most important supplement is Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is responsible for the skin's overall functional and most importantly, its ability to repair itself and produce/maintain skin collagen. You can take Vitamin C easily enough, but you should try to add foods (e.g. spinach, broccoli and citrus) containing high levels of Vitamin C to your diet.

Drinking plenty of water helps to maintain the skin's elasticity, and also flushes the toxic wastes of metabolism out of our bodies. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.

Basic Tip #5: Use Sunblock to Protect Yourself from the Sun

Sun and wind damage can greatly add to breakout problems. Using the correct sunblock will help you to protect your skin. For combination or oily skin, use an oil-free sunblock. For normal or dry skin, use a moisturizer with sunblock. Non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) Neutrogena products are good.

By applying these five basic home remedies for curing acne you can achieve healthier and better looking skin. However, these tips should not be looked as the end of your skin education, but as a basic foundation to work from.
