What You Should Know About Removing Your Acne Scars Through Surgery

If you are a person that suffers from scars left behind from bouts of bad acne, there are a variety of different types of surgeries that can be performed in order to remove these acne scars. But, the kind of treatment and surgery is going to depend upon the type of scars that you have and it will also depend upon whether or not you are currently suffering from an acne outbreak as well as the type of skin that you have. Although it's best to get advice from a cosmetic surgeon about this issue, it doesn't hurt that you are aware of the different types there are because this can help you be ready for your visit with the doctor.

One procedure is what is called a light chemical peel and this will help to loosen up any blackheads that you have and will cut down on getting white heads. This will also help to remove any light scarring there might be from light acne to moderate acne. This procedure does help in promoting skin to regenerate and remove some scarring is usually used only for the treatment of mild scarring caused by acne.

Another procedure is where they will remove your top layer of skin to try and remove the scars from your acne. This is done with what is called microdermabrasion. This technique will remove a layer of skin with tiny particles that are passed through kind of a vacuum tube. This will then also stimulate new growth of tissue. This only works for the top layer of your skin and is also only good for mild scars and sometimes will require that you have several treatments as well.

If you are looking for a more drastic measure you might consider having dermabrasion done. This will require that the tissue be numbed during the procedure. The cosmetic surgeon will then take a rotating brush that will remove the top surface of your skin. This then will later heal to reveal smoother tissue underneath. This healing process can take several weeks however.

Yet another procedure is laser therapy. This is generally for skin that has irregular scars as well as scars that go deeper into your skin. The laser will help remove these scars but it will also help to plump up all of the tissue that is around those deep scars and it helps to tighten your skin all over. This type of treatment will require a local anesthetic and takes just three to ten days for it to heal completely.

If the scarring on your face is so bad that not much will work to help then there is surgery that can help by using skin grafts. What happens here is that the surgeon will cut out the scar tissue and then replace it with some skin from a different part of your body. This procedure is radical and it can take quite a bit of time to heal and is sometimes also followed up with laser treatments. This is however, extremely effective on severe scarring of the face.

One final way is non-surgical and it is injections of collagen. The injections will help to raise up the areas of scars that are depressed into the skin. This helps to get rid of the appearance of scars but they are not gone completely and there will be a need to have this done probably once a year.
