About Using Baking Soda For Acne Scars and Wrinkles - Is This a Safe Treatment?

Baking soda is one of the many treatments that are prescribed for the removal of acne scars and wrinkles. Chemically, it is sodium bicarbonate. It is a synthetic chemical that is meant to be applied on the skin for the treatment. However, using it for acne scars and wrinkles is not without its controversies. Despite the effectiveness of this mode of treatment, there are several cons of the treatment too. Read on to know more.

Manner of Using Baking Soda for Acne Scars and Wrinkles

For the elimination of acne scars and wrinkles, the solution is applied externally. A pasty solution is prepared which contains one teaspoon of the powder in two teaspoons of water. This paste is then directly rubbed onto the scars and the wrinkles. The paste is kept on for a couple of minutes and then the area is rinsed with water to remove the paste. If done properly, the effects will show within a mere couple of days.

Effectiveness of Baking Soda for Acne Scars and Wrinkles

Different people respond to this treatment differently. Some people experience very rapid effects; the scars begin fading away from the next day itself. The treatment is effective because it acts like an exfoliating cream. As the paste is applied, it exfoliates the upper layers of the skin and exposes the unscarred under-skin.

The Cons of Using This for Acne Scars and Wrinkles

It is a harsh chemical. When applied directly on the skin, it has a tendency of burning the skin. Some people may feel a tingling effect as soon as the bicarbonate is applied. Some people have a reverse reaction too; the scars vanish but more whiteheads may make their appearance. To prevent all this, the treatment must be done in the right way. The paste must be washed off soon and never be kept on the skin for more than twenty minutes at a time.
