Using Lemon Juice As an Acne Treatment - Overnight Acne Treatment

Lemon juice is one of many home rememdy ingredients that can be used to treat acne, and it has proved to be quite effective over time. Chinese, homeopaths and ancient people used it for treating various types of ailments especially for skin ailments and disorder.

The main reason why lemon juice, preferable concentrated, is such an effective treatment for acne is that it contains extracts of Vitamin C, traces of citric acid and other minerals. All of these ingredients aid the health of your skin and help to treat skin disorders such as acne or acne scars.

How does lemon juice treat acne?

Because lemon juice contains a high level of citric acid, which although an acid, is of low pH and can actually benefit your skin. One of the causes of acne is dead skin cells, oils, dirt and bacteria on the skin surface that can block your skin pores and hence cause acne, these must be removed. Most of the time you can wash or wipe them off, but if you are not able to do it as frequently as possible then pores may become clogged.

This is where citric acid comes in.

Citric acid helps to unclog pores which have been clogged with dead skin cells, dirt, oils or bacteria and also remove any excess of these materials that may be on the skins surface, a potential hazard.

Using it to treat acne

You can use lemon juice in two ways to treat acne, either topically - applying to the skin or orally - digesting through your mouth.

Topically

Buy a fresh lemon from your local supermarket, size doesn't really matter. Cut the lemon in half and, over a bowl or dish, squeeze the lemon juice from the half of lemon, once you have gathered enough lemon juice to treat your acne put the remainder of the lemon in the fridge for future use.

Dab a cotton wool ball with lemon juice and apply liberally to the acne affected areas. You may feel a slight sting as you apply, that is perfectly normal.

Apply lemon juice every night before you go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning, wipe it off with a cleanser or wash off with warm water.

You may wish to dilute it with water if you feel it is too strong.

Oral

Once again, cut the lemon into 2 halves and squeeze into a glass, now you have two choices, either drink it completely concentrated - it will be quite strong, or you can dilute it with water. What i find is quite useful is to make a "Lemon Tea", which is basically just hot water and added in lemon juice.

You should do this every morning, preferable on an empty stomach, this will flush out all toxins from your body and prevent them from being released from your skin pores.

Lemon juice has been an effective anti-acne remedy for years and still is as effective as it as before. Its use is safe and you can use it orally and topically. If you are experiencing any discomfort from this treatment, stop immediately.

About Using Baking Soda For Acne Scars and Wrinkles - One Possible Treatment

Many methods are recommended as treatment modes for acne, and baking soda (also known as sodium bicarbonate or sometimes soda bicarb) is one of them. However, there is great discrepancy in the effectiveness of this mode of treatment. Some people vouch for it while others are dead-set against using it for acne scars and wrinkles. Here are some true facts that you should know about it.

How to use it for Acne Scars and Wrinkles?

It is meant for external application. The simplest method is to prepare a solution of one part of baking soda with two parts of water and then rub this solution directly on the acne scars and wrinkles. The solution is kept on the skin for a few minutes and then removed with a wet sponge followed by a rinsing of the area. Results are immediate, mostly showing within a day or two.

Can Using it for Acne Scars and Wrinkles Really be Effective?

People who have used baking soda have had all kinds of experiences. However, a greater number of people report the benefits of the method. It works by abrading the skin with an exfoliating technique, which helps in the removal of the scar or the wrinkle. Being an almost physical process, it always shows positive results.

What are the Disadvantages of Using Baking Soda for Acne Scars and Wrinkles?

One of the greatest disadvantages is that it can tingle and even burn on the skin. It can leave some people's skin feeling red and raw, while it can even bring in more pimples on some people. As such, this kind of treatment for acne is something that must be tried out. Also, it is important not to keep the ingredient on the skin for more than 20 minutes because that will make the skin feel very uncomfortable.

Acne Scar Solutions - How To Get Rid Of Scarring!

Acne breakouts are a very common skin condition that affects up to 80% of adolescents and 5% of adults. Those who are unfortunate enough to suffer from this condition may also be unfortunate enough to be left with awful scarring as a result. If scarring isn't treated soon enough they can become permanent and can really do damage to a person's self confidence.

There are different types of acne scars that are classified by shape, size and appearance. The different types known as Icepick, Boxcar and Rolling. If you start treatment early enough then the scarring can respond really well to medications. However if the scars are older and more permanent they may require surgical treatment. A combination of treatments involving topical skincare medication along with either surgical or skin resurfacing treatments, can be very effective.

There are a number of surgical options that can be used to treat acne scarring and they all have their positive aspects and negative aspects. A doctor will treat a patient based on their age, sex, medical history, their skin type and most importantly the severity of the scarring. Cost is also an issue as some of the procedures can be quite expensive.

One option is to use dermal fillers. With this treatment a surgeon will inject fillers like collagen or hyaluronic acid derivatives into the skin. As a result the base of the scar is raised to the same level as the normal skin, reducing the appearance of scarring.

Another treatment option is the 'punch excision' treatment that is usually used in icepick and boxcar scarring. This treatment requires making incisions in the skin using a punch biopsy instrument and then the edges are stitched together. The aim is for the new scar to heal nicely and leave a less noticeable scar than the one that was there. Another variation of this treatment is punch excision with skin graft replacement which uses a skin graft to mend the incision instead of suturing the edges together.

The next treatment option we are going to discuss is punch elevation and this is usually used on boxcar type scars that have well defined edges and regular bases. With this treatment the bottom of the scar is excised and then elevated to the top of the skin level. Sutures or glue are then used to join the sides together.

Subcutaneous incision is another treatment that is used for rolling scars and with this treatment a beveled needle is inserted beneath the skin and then used to cut the binding tissue within the scar. There is some bruising after this procedure which will fade in around one week.

Laser resurfacing is a popular treatment and this involves burning off the top layer of skin cells so that they new, clear skin underneath is then visible.

Prevention is always better than cure. Very simple precautions that include staying away from strong sunshine, using medications such as tretinoin and alpha hydroxyl acids, avoiding picking scabs, regular working out and dietary control go a long way in avoiding acne scars and saving lots of humiliation and expenses.
